About the Author

James Ficek is a thirty-something undergraduate student pursuing cultural studies in anthropology with an eye on environmental disasters. As a social and environmental activist, he enjoys crafting sustainability arguments with his Nikon Coolpix AW110 camera. When he is not in the woods, he’s thinking about being in the woods. James captured his published image at Northern Oregon’s Ecola State Park in early January of 2016. He says he was fortuitously presented with a fleeting combination of vapor, light, and­ shadow and was able to capture “A View Through the Trees.”
